Music music music music
Tuesday, September 11th, 2007So I haven’t repaired my site yet, and anybody coming here to view my portfolio will be sorely disappointed!
In any case, I’ve been writing music recently, and I thought I would post a piece, because a people have been telling me to put something new up. I’ve written a lot of music for two separate projects I have right now (one is a paid commission and the other is just because I think the game looks cool), but one of them is going much better than the other.
Dragoon Legends: Rapture (Album Version) Preview
This track is called Rapture and it is for Dragoon Legends. The name was inspired by the game Bioshock, because, seriously, it’s the best video game ever made. The music itself was inspired by the title screen theme for Zelda: Twilight Princess. Even though Zelda: TP wasn’t a very good game, it had beautiful title screen music! Like all album versions of video game music, this song will loop over and then end. Normally, video game music will fade out after the second loop, but for this song, I added an ending. This is mostly because my composition instructor at school told me to write something that could be played at the school. I can assure you, from experience, that one can’t really fade out when playing with a chamber orchesta. Also, fade outs are incredibly lame and it’s not like it takes a lot of work to slap a chord on the end of something.
The piece is mostly finished. I might update it or something, but for the most part, this is what you’ll get — it’s a lot more complete than, say, the preview tracks for this soundtrack that I had posted previously. I’m not sure which part of the game it will be used for, but since most of the soundtrack is really sparkly like this, it’s all very interchangeable. There will be no battle theme, but I think next on the list is a boss theme of some sort. I always write really excellent battle and boss themes, but I struggle so much when writing them. It just isn’t natural for me!
I hope you enjoy the track! It’s one of my personal favorites.
MAKING OF DOCUMENTARY: I broke a pair of headphones while writing this. I was ridiculously depressed when I was working on it, and Cakewalk was NOT COOPERATING with me, and I was so frustrated that I could have cried. Instead, I threw my studio headphones against the wall and destroyed them. I finished the track using iPod earbuds. This is really unlike me, and I was really surprised with myself! I’ve never thrown a video game controller, for example.
Also, I was wearing a really awesome sweater when I finished this piece:
You can’t see it that well in this snapshot, but the collar is sort of like a turtleneck, except it crosses in the front and folds down. It looks really cool. I bought it at H&M, which is where every sensible young man buys awesome sweaters.
I started college last week, and because of a particularly nasty cold, I’ve already missed two days of class. Not cool.
It is September 11th today, which is a pretty depressing day for America.
